What are the Jim Crow Laws
The Jim Crow system of segregation in the U.S. South--enforced by the business and political power structure ensured that African Americans endured second-class status in every aspect of their lives (Daily News and Opinion from the Left,The Montgomery Bus Boycott). The name Jim Crow is usually referred to describe the segregation laws, rules, and customs which came about after Reconstruction ended in 1877 (N.p, Who was Jim Crow). The Jim Crow laws meant that African Americans and whites were not supposed to be together, but they were all equal. Jim crow laws got there name because a white male black faced an elderly African American. Under the Jim Crow laws African Americans were second class citizens (Ferris State University). Along with the Jim Crow laws the African Americans also had to deal with the Black Codes.
